Polking needs more than a win against Lion City Sailors to keep Công An Hà Nội fresh

At 18:30 on October 8, 2026, Công An Hà Nội begin their ASEAN Club Championship 2026-2027 campaign away to Lion City Sailors in Singapore. Five national team players have just returned from FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 duty: Adou Minh, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, Lê Phạm Thành Long, Lê Văn Đô and Nguyễn Đình Bắc. Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh stayed behind for treatment. The opening group game is less about the opponent and more about how coach Alexandre Polking manages fatigue before a congested schedule. At the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia, most Công An Hà Nội players featured in all four matches. Adou Minh, Quang Vinh, Thành Long and Đình Bắc had heavy minutes and were below their best because of overload. Đình Bắc even trained separately and played through pain against Malaysia. Before the FIFA break, Công An Hà Nội won four straight in V-League and the national Super Cup, with only one defeat to Gamba Osaka in AFC Champions League Elite. Even without the five national players, the squad still has Đoàn Văn Hậu, Nguyễn Quang Hải, Alan Grafite and Leo Artur, so rotation is feasible. Lion City Sailors are fifth in the Singapore Premier League and lost 0-5 to Công An Hà Nội in the same competition on September 26, 2026. The clear class gap makes three points the expectation, but Polking should avoid going all-out. A controlled win with sensible substitutes and fresh legs for the long season is worth more than another lopsided scoreline. The match is a test of squad depth and physical management.
